Do you measure up to a dinosaur?

Thoughts from Steven and Micaela King:

Did you know that a Velociraptor measures 6 feet?  The Velociraptor was a member of the dromaeousaur family. Like all raptors, he had a sickle-like claw on his foot and three sharp claws on each hand. Even though he was 6 feet long, he had a long tail so was only 2 and a half feet tall.  This dinosaur also had a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth.

Are you as tall as a Velociraptor? You are probably 2 and a half feet tall, but do you think that you will ever get to be 6 feet tall? Maybe not or maybe so! The tallest man in the world was 9 feet tall. However, did you know that even the tallest man in the world can’t even measure to God’s standards?

God’s standards are taller than any dinosaur, The real question is: are you good enough to get to Heaven? According to God’s standards, you have to be perfect to get to Heaven. So are you good enough to get Heaven? God said in Mark 10:18: And Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.'”

Can a person know how they measure up to God?  What are God’s standards?  Perhaps you have heard of the ten commandments:

  1. You must have no other gods before Me
  2. You must not make an idol
  3. You must not falsely swear in God’s name
  4. Remember the Sabbath day and honor it
  5. Honor you father and mother
  6. You must not murder
  7. You must not commit adultery
  8. You must not steal
  9. You must not lie
  10. You must not covet

This is how God measures us.  You can measure your height or stand next to a model of a Velociraptor to tell how you measure up to a dinosaur.  You must stand up to the ten commandments to see how you measure up to God.

Have you ever told a lie? If you have, you have broken one of God’s commandments.  If you break even one of His commandments, you can not measure up to His standards.  It doesn’t have to be a big lie either.  Even a “little white lie” is as bad as telling a “regular lie.”

Have you ever killed someone? Probably not, but why do people kill other people? Because they hate each other.  Jesus said in Matthew 5:21-22, “You have heard that is was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.”

Can you imagine that? Hating someone is as bad as killing them! If you can never hate anyone or lie, can anyone measure up to God?

The answer is, no one can measure up to God. The worst part is, anyone who does not measure up to God’s standards will be sent to hell.

Thankfully, God made a way to get people who should to go to hell to go to heaven. God says in John 3:16,  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son (Jesus), that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

First, we must admit that we cannot measure up to God. No one can save ourselves. Titus 3:5 says that “he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,”

Secondly, we must believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He came to earth, died for us, and rose again for the dead. Romans 5:8 says, “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Lastly, we need to call upon the Lord and ask the Lord Jesus into our life. Romans 10:13 says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” If Jesus comes into your life, He will make you a new person, one who is able to follow God’s commandments. 2 Corinthians 5: 17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

Measuring up to a dinosaur is fun, but measuring up to God determines where you will be when you die.  Repent and call on the name of Jesus and be saved, because no one can measure up to God’s standards.
